A press release, a camcorder and a mike…
Making a big splash for your business does not have to be expensive.
Last saturday night, one of my clients was lucky enough to be selected as one, of only three liquor stores in the greater Nashville area, to get a celebrity appearance by the Discovery Channels ‘Moonshiners’ Stephen Ray Tickle. The Sugarlands Shine appearance drew hundreds of fans that waited for hours to meet the largest legend of Franklin County Virginia, since the Bondurant Brothers (Lawless – 2010).
They sold over four cases of shine that night and got a live remote from the local Wilson County News.
I miked a friend of mine, and shot about three hours of video that ended up with a couple of great sound bites. One of the questions we asked Tickle, mirrored a popular YouTube video made of him talking about “Beer or Bacon”. Positioning the video with the correct key words, landed it #2 (organic ranking) the next day. Having our videos imbedded in the client’s website, spiked traffic over 400% in 24 hours. Fans also came to the website for a free download photograph of themselves with the celebrity.
Cost for the Project:
- Press release (2 blasts) – $90
- Video Shoot (3 hours) – $135
- Editing (3 hours) – $135
- Website embedding (1 hour) – $45
- Social Media Submission (2 hours) – $80
- Total Project Cost – $485 plus tax
I will be increasing my creative marketing rates at the first of the year. If you would like to lock down the cost of a project at my current $45 per hour rate, contact me soon!

26 July 1944 – a mission that should have never been flown
70 years ago this summer, poor command and control cost 2nd Lt. David Kerr his life, as well as those of nearly 13 heavy bomber air crews.
This is a tragic story on many levels. War is horrible enough as it is, but the loss of so many due to apparent oversight, is even worse. This mission was cancelled due to poor weather at the I.P. (after the bombers were airborne). Fighter support were not present.
Oberleutnant Hirschfeld is credited with the shoot-down of Kerr’s bomber. Ironically he was killed two days later when his plane was hit and his parachute failed to open. Another life lost due to someones lack of attention to detail.
My goal is to fund a marker in honor of him, and the brave airmen that went down with his plane, and the other B-17 he collided with near Gutenstein, Austria, July 26, 1944.
Powerblock TV 1963 Ford Galaxy 500
Our first TV appearance with F&P Collision Center on PowerBlock TV. Part of the video restoration we shot of this 63′ Galaxy 500 made a national debut. This 6 part video series has landed the Collision Center numerous new clients and national TV exposure. The series has logged thousands of views on YouTube and Vimeo. The collision center noted that several restoration projects were gained because of the videos that were reviewed from this classic car restoration.
The landscape of marketing has shifted in very profound and fundamental ways. With the advent of Social Media, financial institutions, merchants, health-care providers and even non-profits are exposed to public comments that they cannot control. Additionally, attempts to suppress comments can hurt an organization even more. On sites such as Yelp, Foursquare and Loopt, anyone can register a business entity not already claimed, and then post comments for anyone to see. This has become an asset for consumers, but a nightmare for organizations that deliver products and services that fall short of consumer expectations.
Athens-South, LLC only partners with businesses that are proud of the work they do, and want to take advantage of marketing their good name. We do not condone, or work with organizations that want to try “game” the SEO system, which we believe is not only unethical, but poor business practices that will rapidly lead to failure. If your company believes in the former, we are the consulting group for you.
